Utility Locating Helper/Trainee
Job description – Part-time/temporary Contract – $18/hour
Previous construction and/or basic hand tool experience required (1 to 2 years). Good attitude, ability work interdependently, trainability, and strong work ethic also required.
Work Description – Assist lead Utility Locating Technician with tool, instrument, and supply organization at work sites. For example, use 2-way radios to communicate at large worksites and keep lead technician supplied with everything needed to complete the job. Also learn basic underground utility locating techniques using electro-magnetic induction (EMI), and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) technologies. Initially the job will be considered part-time/temporary contract position, but may lead to full time position after a 3-month probationary period. Job status and pay increase will be evaluated at that time.
Work will also involve:
- walking several miles/day.
- lifting up to 40lbs several times/day.
- working around high-traffic areas.
- interacting with city officials, engineering companies, and the public.
- carrying bag of hand tools.
- maintaining safety of electronic equipment.
- working independently when necessary.
- reading maps, and ability to use Google Earth.
- having basic understanding of electrical theory.
- having basic understanding of underground infrastructure.
Candidate must complete short written quiz as part of the interviewing process.
Contract employee must have health insurance, or sign release waiver. Workman Comp insurance available.
Pay: $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: Minimum 24 per week
